Week 7 of the NFL season kicked off on a high note as the Jacksonville Jaguars (5-2) squared off against the New Orleans Saints (3-4) at the Caesars Superdome. The Jaguars extended their winning streak to four games, a streak that includes a convincing double-digit victory over the Indianapolis Colts in the previous weekend. Meanwhile, the Saints were coming off a Week 6 defeat to the Houston Texans.
Despite concerns about his left knee sprain, Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence was active and started the game. Jacksonville had taken precautions by signing third-stringer Nathan Rourke from their practice squad to the active roster earlier in the week, just in case Lawrence couldn’t play.
The game kicked off with the Jaguars making a strong statement on their opening possession. Lawrence showcased his passing prowess by amassing 60 yards through the air during the drive. On the 10th play of the series, Travis Etienne powered into the end zone with a 2-yard rushing touchdown.
The Saints, on the other hand, faced some early struggles as Blake Grupe missed a 51-yard field goal attempt. However, the tide turned in their favor when cornerback Paulson Adebo executed a brilliant strip of the ball from Jaguars wide receiver Christian Kirk on the very first play of the ensuing drive. New Orleans seized possession of the loose ball, giving them a much-needed boost.
Despite this opportunity, the Saints managed only a three-and-out on their next drive. However, the Jaguars’ special teams encountered a hiccup when they muffed the punt, allowing the Saints to regain possession at the 17-yard line. New Orleans settled for a field goal, narrowing the gap to 7-3 in favor of the Jaguars.
